Whirlwind Week

What an amazing week it has been!

On Wednesday, my volunteers and I attended the Akron Tea Party Rally and met so many great
people. It is such a pleasure to talk with intelligent patriotic Americans. The Youth for Todd Sharkey

created signs and set up on Main Street in Downtown Akron near the rally. It was great to have all

the support.

On Thursday, I attended the Lorain County Tea Party Rally in Elyria, Ohio. What a beautiful area

and great people. Again, I got to talk with strong conservatives and patriots. From there, I headed

down to the Medina County Tea Party Rally in Medina, Ohio. I ran into some friends and was

able to talk to a few people. The rally was in full swing by the time I arrived. I could not stay long

because I had a roundtable discussion sponsored by the Medina County Republicans and

Federated Republican Women. The audience asked great questions. I had a lot of good feedback

from the group afterwards.

I wanted to comment on an important news item this week. I read this from the AP:

"World leaders concluded a 47-nation nuclear security conference on Tuesday by endorsing

President Barack Obama’s call for securing all of the globe’s vulnerable nuclear materials

within four years. They offered few specifics for achieving that goal, but Obama declared 'the

American people will be safer and the world will be more secure' as a result."

(Source: Bennington Banner)

I am reminded of another leader who once said something similar. “I believe it is peace for our

time,” said by British prime minister, Neville Chamberlain.

Like that time, evil men desire the destruction of the free world for their own gain. In Tuesday's

agreement there was no assurance of the disarmament of the rogue nations (Iran and North Korea).

There was only the assurance from the leaders of the countries that attend that they would do a

better job of securing their nuclear material to keep it out of the hands of terrorist. What do we think

will happen if Iran or North Korea get nuclear weapons? Iran is already sponsoring terrorism and

North Korea appears to be getting more aggressive.

Are you feeling safer yet? We need a strong national defense and we need to invest in a

minuteman type response capability so our enemies know we can strike back quickly and

effectively. Moreover, we need to continue to modernize our military equipment. If we don't then

our enemies will catch up and surpass what we currently have.

Government Spending Does Not Equal Economic Growth
Campaign Blog

I don't care what the politicians in Washington tell you - government does not drive the economy; the people drive the economy. All government can do is promote policies that will encourage entrepreneurs and business leaders to take risks and start new business ventures. This will lead to real job growth.

The proof that the government does not drive the economy can be found in the article "Income falls 3.2% during Obama's term" by Joseph Curl in The Washington Times. The article cites statistics showing the decrease in personal income.

"Real personal income for Americans - excluding government payouts such as Social Security - has fallen by 3.2 percent since President Obama took office in January 2009, according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis."

"For comparison, real personal income during the first 15 months in office for President George W. Bush, who inherited a milder recession from his predecessor, dropped 0.4 percent. Income excluding government payouts increased 12.7 percent during Mr. Bush's eight years in office." (Source - The Washington Time)

Even with the stimulus bill, the Obama regime has not raised income (unless you work in the government).

"This is hardly surprising," said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, an economist and former director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. "Under President Obama, only federal spending is going up; jobs, business startups, and incomes are all down. It is proof that the government can't spend its way to prosperity." (Source - The Washington Time)

The article is a must read. However, it does end with the sober predictions from the Associated Press:

"c The unemployment rate will stay high for the next two years and still be at 8.4 percent by the end of 2011."
"c Home prices will remain almost flat for the next two years, even after dropping an average 32 percent nationwide since peaking in 2006."
"c The economy will grow about 3 percent this year, less than usual during the early phase of a recovery, but few jobs will be added."

(Source - The Washington Time)

I think Rush Limbaugh's summarized it well on the radio today "Bush's recession was better than Obama's recovery."

We need real economic growth. We must cut corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, and personal income taxes. Then, we must begin eliminating the existing income tax system and implement either the fair tax or flat tax. This is why this election is so important. I cannot stress how important it is for you to research the candidates. Make them earn your vote. I know when you get to know me, I believe you will know I will endeavor to do what is right.

From Todd:

“I met some of the most thoughtful and courteous people today.  It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to talk with individuals who care so much for America and its future.  I was also pleasantly surprised to meet so many Democrats who have become disillusioned with their party and have found common ground with the Tea Party movement.

"The Tea Party movement is a true grassroots effort to educate and motivate the people.  I share the Tea Party’s belief in limiting the federal government and preserving the liberties of the American people by upholding the Constitution."

Here are some pictures from the day.  See more on my Facebook Page
